Blogdrive Tips: Monthly Archives for Blogdrive

This feature is currently not offered in Blogdrive for both the free and paid accounts, but there is a way to add a monthly archive without tearing your hair out.

If you click the url shown in the Calendar, you'll note that it appears in this format:

http://techbot.blogdrive.com/archive/cm-02_cy-2007_m-02_d-28_y-2007_o-0.html

If you dissect it, you'll see that the archive url first labels the month and year, and then specifies the duration to display latest and earliest dates to display:

02_d-31_y-2007_o-0

02 is the month, 31 is the latest date, 2007 the year, and 0 the earliest.

Specify the last day of the month, be it 28, 30, or 31. Note the code only works when the month is actually up otherwise it'll send you to some http page.

So build a series of links:

<a href=http://techbot.blogdrive.com/archive/cm-02_cy-2007_m-02_d-28_y-2007_o-0.html>February 2007</a><br>
<a href=http://techbot.blogdrive.com/archive/cm-01_cy-2007_m-01_d-31_y-2007_o-0.html>January 2007</a></a>
<a href=http://techbot.blogdrive.com/archive/cm-12_cy-2006_m-12_d-31_y-2006_o-0.html>December 2006</a>

and paste them in side.html. Voila! :) You have your archive.

Giveaway of the Day

I love testing new software. A friend sent me the link to Giveaway of the Day where companies who join the project give you a day's licence to download their software. You get to keep it of course. But you must install it on the day itself.

They have a widget which you can add to your blog (see right) that tells you and your visitors which software is free for the day. If you missed any opps, no worries. There's a bunch of freeware as well. Just click the tags to search.

Definitely worth watching.

WGA is Back in Disguise

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is back, this time disguised as a critical update named WGA Notifications 1.7 KB905474.

While adding a third rating called "not sure" for "suspicious" versions of Windows, it hasn't won fans from its privacy issues of WGA "phoning home".
Microsoft says it will reduce the frequency with which WGA checks in with the company to once every couple of weeks or so, and admits that it erred by not telling users everything that the tool does. "We're looking at ways to communicate that in a more forward manner," said Windows Genuine Advantage program head David Lazar.
