Software: Firefox Crashes a Lot I had thought it was just my laptop. But it seems Firefox has been crashing on my brother's laptop which is running on XP too. And then I Googled it and... et tu Firefox??? Just on the first page of hits: Pete Freitag Hardware Analysis Business Week One of the theories is that the extensions we run cause it to crash but I very rarely had problems when I was running it on XP and my brother runs no extensions. Sometimes I even have to resort to using Seamonkey (wish they'd rebrand it) or IE *shudder*. Although I have to say IE7 is not bad at all. Not bad at all. Hmm... Technorati: Firefox, Firefox crashes a lot Review: Webroot Spy Sweeper Since as far as I can remember and even before the onset of the word "spyware" (okay, not really but...), I've been using Webroot Spy Sweeper for years now, albeit the free version and it has never failed to produce a satisfying clean sweep, rooting out nasty spyware (yes, even on my computer, which shows how innocent surfing can attract lots of spyware whether or not you like it). There's this cool live Powerful Smart Shields that catches spyware while you surf. Definitely a bonus. What I hadn't realised is that it is the most award-winning antispyware software out there. Some of its accolades include being Softpedia.com's pick, PC Magazine's Editor's Choice, PC Pro Recommended, PC World's Best Buy Award, one of PC World's Top 100 Best Products of 2006, Smart Computing's Smart Choice Award, among many others. See all of them here. The neat thing is that unlike all the other favourites, it is now Vista-ready. Now, I usually recommend running several spyware programs to catch the strays and most certainly you should add Webroot Spy Sweeper to your arsenal. It is also a very viable option should you choose to run only one antispyware software. Download a free version to try. Check Spy Sweeper out now. June 3, 2007
The Lure of PC Shows: acquiring the lenovo Yes it is that time of year again... the flurry of PC Shows have arrived yet again, tempting me with their discounted and bundled goodies, waving a plethora of gadgets I simply must touch to feel satiated. Damn these shows. The last time I made a trip out to one of them, baby strapped to me, I had to fight tooth and nail to get through to the lenovo stand where I charmed the salesman into giving me a nice discount for this laptop. After that one purchase I was exhausted. And not just because my bank account was plentifully lighter but that the crush was simply too much for me. That and having to protect a helpless baby from being squished, molested, or sweated on by greasy gadget freaks like myself. So this weekend, I'll be grinding my fingernails to the bone, stroking my lenovo v100 (still yet to be named!!! - hey maybe I'll call it Terminator) with great affection, and staring longingly at the dopod U1000 which I secretly wish I had bought instead. Shh... Technorati: PC Show, gadgets, Terminator, lenovo v100, dopod U1000 |
